I was born in the Summer of '69.
Man walked on the moon that summer.
[Well, MJ moonwalked too, much later. May his soul R I P.]
Woodstock happened that summer.
Ravi Shankar played at dawn. So did Ali Akbar's sarod. It was raining then.
[So did Jimi Hendrix. May his soul R I P.]
Bryan Adams had bleeding fingers that summer. I see bloody hands these days. Everyday.
And you say my country is free. A 65 year old woman. Has she been doomed to eternal motherhood? They whisper so.
They say I've been doomed to eternal cataplexia. That makes me a prisoner , doesn't it?
I'm a prisoner of my own self. I can't set myself free. To free my country? Shall that set me free? Or my neighbour? Or that raped teen aged girl who took her own life last week? Shall it cleanse the "male psyche" of Rape Of a woman? Teach me. Show me.
Is anybody raping a woman called India? Tell me. I'm cataplectic. I'll listen.
It isn't Ahimsa?.. C'on who the hell ever bothered about that!
50 Aprils before the April I was born,
it was a sunny afternoon too in Jalianwalah Baug. I don't know who was born but I know some got killed.
I am an 'orderly' Indian. I was an
"ardali" in the colonial days too.
I follow orders well. The demonic general just gave orders on that April afternoon in 1919. He didn't fire a single shot. It was me who shot "the mob". I was not tried. And I haven't felt any remorse since.
They say there are mobs everywhere now. Recently they killed too. In Assam.
So give me a gun then. Tell me who to shoot at. Or what to shoot at. Is it my own bloody brains? Amen. But
give me that bloody gun..
I shall pull the trigger somehow.
But for heaven's sake, don't make a martyr of me then. There is Peace In hell. Don't break the Peace of the doomed and the condemned and the convicted. Even I will feel ashamed, for a change.
