LETTERS TO MY DAUGHTER : A Boy and that lonely Violin

Special gratitude to. Rajyashree Choudhuri

Dear Daughter,

Yesterday My dear respected friend, Rajyashree Choudhuri-a friend in Facebook to, had posted this link on her FB wall:
"Somewhere My Love (Lara's Theme) with Lyrics.Dr.Zhivago.wmv"
for this unexpected Wholesome Treat, a very gratifying one.

I share a long relationship with "Lara's Theme". I was about 4 years old then, learning names : Zhivago, Omar Sheriff.... the story stuck to my head, I remember watching a movie Dr.Zhivago in a movie-theater called New Empire. I think of a boy, who would grow up to be a doctor, missing his mom Lara, staring at the lonely violin hanging in the wall of a little cottage as a blizzard is on outside.

One day I remember - people were talking about a Boris Pasternek, and that a book was "banned". I was heart-broken and angry too.
A book has been banned - why?
My country, India, the way I read about her in my geograhy text-book can force a person not to speak?
and it can prevent book-lovers from
Reading books?

That day, I understood a little abut the value of a rather little thing - FREEDOM.

That day perhaps planted a seed in my psyche which has grown up with me, to be a tree that is repulsive, arrogant, obstinate, argumentative, devoid of decency. It has managed to isolate me from normal life, where people think about Good and Bad.

I keep asking my self what ever happened to Right and Wrong..
